ISKCON Birmingham aims to inspire the chanting of the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra through joyful, accessible programmes — Friday Kirtan, the Harinam Festival, Sunday Sanga and daily darshan of Sri Sri Radha-Krishna. Our temple has been a spiritual home for Brummies, students, families and seekers for nearly fifty years.
Five centuries ago, Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu predicted that the holy name of Krishna would be chanted in every town and village of the world. In 1896 — the year Swami Vivekananda visited the West — a child was born in Calcutta named Abhay Charan De who would, decades later, bring that prediction to life.
At the age of 69, with a single trunk of books and forty rupees, Srila Prabhupada arrived in New York. In just twelve years he travelled the globe fourteen times, initiated thousands, wrote more than 70 volumes of translation and commentary, and founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness — ISKCON.
His Birmingham temple, established in 1976, continues that mission: simple, joyful Bhakti yoga, open and free to all.
